About us

Stephen and Kim Roberts, and their family, run a mixed farming enterprise "Ganowlea" at Temora, found on the edge of the South West Slopes and the Riverina regions of NSW, Australia. Here they produce a variety of products such as Saltbush grazed lamb and most importantly Bundawarrah Free Range Pork. The Free Range piggery section was established in 1994. Steve and Kim chose to operate an outdoor piggery for several reasons; the most important reason being, the lifestyle and welfare of their stock

The local and extended area around the township of Temora is a diverse food basket, where some of the most delicious and unique food is grown and produced - and Bundawarrah Free Range pork & their Saltbush lamb are no exception.

"Ganowlea" is a third generation family farm, with the original Roberts', Jack and Nancy, using the farm as a grow-out/finishing place for their stock destined to be sold at the Roberts' three butcher shops.

In the days before supermarkets, butcher shops thrived, supplying fresh meat and hand cured delicacies with a friendly, cheerful manner and free delivery!

Stock were fattened by grazing in open paddocks with natural grasses and grain feeding.
Jack and Nancy had three sons; all three went into the family butchery business and remained in the trade. The meat industry has been in the Roberts blood, and the knowledge and customer service that went with it has been passed down and incorporated in the growing and marketing of Bundawarrah Free Range Pork

The resurgence of niche? Butcheries, with an emphasis on service, quality meat products and accompaniments have created an opening for Bundawarrah succulent pork to be show-cased and made available to the discerning and welfare conscience consumers of today.

The Roberts' have created a niche' market with their free range pork, the stress- free, natural lifestyle that their stock indulge in, the advanced techniques of farming that are applied and their "commonsense" knowledge of the pig needs; all create a product that is in high demand. They own, operate and market their pork, always looking to expand and diversify, never settling on the mundane.

Their efforts have been rewarded, having received recognition by winning The Riverina Food Groups Golden Plate award for 2 consecutive years running. They have also been nominated for the Banksia Environmental Award and have had the nod of approval from inspectors from the RSPCA and the EPA for their farming techniques and sustainability. An appearance on Harry's Practice and ABC On the Land plus write ups in several rural newspapers have all been stepping stones in the path of Bundawarrah Free Range Pork.
